Acme Bar & Grill Crab Cake Sandwich Acme Bar & Grill Crab Cake Sandwich Crab Cake Review

Walk along Annapolis' Main Street, and you'll come across everything that you expect in a small seaside town -- small shops, ice cream parlors, happy tourists, local restaurants and bars.  Oh, and the repeated claims of having Annapolis' best crab cakes.  And the Acme Bar & Grill isn't any different.  They've been around as long as we can remember.  During the day, they are a popular spot with the tourists and sailors.  And at night, the crowd turns quite a bit younger.  But, no matter when you go, the kitchen will be the same, and so will the crab cakes.  Are they really Annapolis' best?  Read on and find out!

Jumbo lump crab cake served with signature tartar sauce, lemon, and fries.  Double entree also available, served with tartar sauce, lemon, and coleslaw.  Menu didn't indicate if more sides are included, so ask your server.

Crab cakes are made from jumbo lump crab meat, and they mean it.  Cake consists of lots of jumbo lumps, along with some broken pieces.  The crab itself has a nice sweet flavor.  All of this crab is held together with a mayo/breadcrumb binder that takes on a eggy flavor and consistency.  Very little spice mixed in.

Overall, the crab cake was very good.  The crab flavor was key, and really came through.  But there could have been a little more to it.  The binder could have been a little less on the eggy side, and there could have been a little more spice mixed in to balance the flavor out.  We do have to say that as far as crab cake sandwiches go, this is a really good one for a sandwich.  The bread, lettuce, and tomato work well with the crab meat and binder flavor.  But if it was served as a platter, the cake may not be interesting enough to hold your attention for very long.
