Jimmy's Famous Seafood

Jimmy's Famous Seafood Crab Cake Jimmy's Famous Seafood Crab Cake Crab Cake Review

Since 1974, as the name implies, Jimmy's has been famous for their seafood offerings, although they offer far more than just seafood.  You're probably wondering how a restaurant can get so famous, seeing as how most of you are asking yourselves, "Where ever in the city is Broening Manor?"  Go there, and you may start to ponder what you're even doing there, and if the CCR lead you astray or not (the neighborhood is very industrial).  Fret not, fearless readers, Jimmy's is there!  Broening Manor is located in SE Baltimore, at the point where you're almost in Dundalk.  But is it worth the trek in our search for the city's tastiest crab cakes?  Let's find out!

Crab cakes are 8oz and are served as a single or double platter with one side (to which I was informed was fries).  A sandwich is also available, served with lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise and fries.  Entree came out with just a lemon, although Old Bay was provided upon request (strictly for the fries, hon!).  I would reckon that cocktail and tartar could be requested as well, being a seafood restaurant and all.

While the crab cake itself is saucy, the sauce lacks any sort of overpowering flavor, allowing the crab meat flavor to sing.  Old Bay sprinkled on top for spicing, but not so much that it overpowers.  Everything accentuates the crab meat nicely.  The sauce gives the cake a rich, velvety texture with a creamy flavor that leans towards more of a faint mayonnaise flavor.

This crab cake was delicious!  When the crab meat flavor pops and has that signature sweetness that us Baltimoreans have come to expect, it is hard to find any faults with the fact that there aren't any other real flavors to the crab cake.  Maybe using a tad less sauce and a pinch more spice will make this masterpiece even better.

The flavor of the cake in the center (which is just crab meat flavor and sauce) is different from the outer crust of the cake (which has the Old Bay).  The Old Bay flavor in the crust was a bit more interesting of a flavor than that of the center, where it was just crab meat flavor and sauce.  Try it for yourself first without, then add a few specks from the Old Bay you coated your fries with and see which you prefer.

I've read some reviews of Jimmy's which indicate that they aren't to friendly to people using coupons, such as those purchased as a Groupon, a radio station promo, charity event, etc.  I had used a Restaurant.com coupon without any issues whatsoever.  Which leads me to believe that the people who got denied use of their coupons didn't read the usage terms very closely.
