Barbeque, Blues & Seafood MD Crab Cakes Barbeque, Blues & Seafood MD Crab Cakes Crab Cake Review

Every now and again, in the course of our reviews, we get to come across a place that we may never have known about, or at the very least, would have passed by without another thought, if it wasn't for the lure of crab cakes that lingered inside (and the help of a restaurant.com coupon as well!).  Barbecue, Blues & Seafood is such a place.  Located on 648 over by Marley Station, you might think this is strictly some sort of biker or dive bar.  But guess again!  Step inside, and immediately become engulfed in the delicious aroma of steamed crabs.  Then you notice the down home decor, and realize that everyone in there is as friendly as can be.  So are the crab cakes worth the trip?  Let's check it out!

The Maryland Crab Cakes are described as being homemade, lightly breaded and served broiled or fried.  Platters are served with two sides.  A sandwich is also available, as well as crab cakes stuffed into hard shells or soft shell crabs (both variations understandably come fried).  Wait staff will ask if you want tartar or cocktail, and by default will bring out a shaker of Old Bay.  No lemon, so you might want to ask for that if you're into that sort of thing.

The broiled crab cakes may appear to be fried at first glance, but it's only because it's lightly breaded.  No matter, it's what is inside that counts!  Crab is mostly broken up, and is Maryland style, so the breadcrumbs give it a thicker, bready texture.  Spicing amount is on average, and doesn't attempt to overpower.

These crab cakes are good!  The bready texture and flavor works well with the spicing.  The crab has a good flavor on its own, nice and sweet.  There could be a bit more moisture to the crab cakes (maybe a tad more mayo or egg in the mix?), and come served with lemon by default.  Not much more to say, other than get yourself over there and try them for yourself.

Also, we highly recommend you get the mac & cheese as a side, and sprinkle it with some Old Bay.  It could stand as an entree of it's own!  They also cater, so once you try them out, consider them for your next event.  I'm sure they won't disappoint!
