The Olive Tree

For over 20 years, The Olive Tree has been serving fresh, local, authentic Italian cuisine in the Aberdeen area. What started out as 10 bar stools and 8 booths has quickly grown to two newly renovated locations with a loyal (and growing!) customer base. In July 2013, friend of the CCR and one of the owners, Mindy H., invited us to come sample their local seafood offerings, particularly the crab cakes, which have been one of their top sellers since they opened. Look online at any of the reviews for The Olive Tree, and they will all mention crab cakes. So we recently stopped by to pay them a visit, and check out one of our favorite treats. Read on to see if the crab cakes are as good as the pasta looks!

The Seafood Stop

Ah, yes. The seafood carryout. One of the many staples of the Baltimore landscape. Game day coming up? Need crabs for that big summertime feast? Don't want to cook? They've got you covered. And if you're up around the Fallston area, you've probably frequented The Seafood Stop. Or wish you had, once catching a whiff of wafting Old Bay while you pump your gas at WaWa, or shop for a new car. What started out as a crab truck back in 1989 has now turned into a brick and mortar establishment. All along the way, The Seafood Stop has been known for their attention to quality and detail. So what does that mean for our beloved crab cakes? Read on and find out!

Tidewater Grille

The Tidewater Grille is located right on the Susquehanna River, complete with outdoor seating overlooking the water, and free boat docking for their customers. No matter where you sit, you'll always have a view of the river, and everything happening in and around it. In fact, this is Havre de Grace's only waterfront restaurant. So seeing as how you can't get any closer to the water, you would hope that they know how to do seafood right. Fighting the urge to try one of everything on their menu, we ordered what we always order -- crab cakes! Read on and see if you should drop anchor or set sail for somewhere else!

Twin Silos Restaurant is located at Geneva Farm Golf Course in Street, MD. Haven't heard of Street? It's near Rocks State Park in Harford County, and is located on, you guessed it, a farm! (Not a working farm, so don't worry about cows and chickens on the course.) On premise is a restaurant that delivers upscale, yet homestyle, dining. Friend of the Review Rick F. had tipped us off on this location earlier in the year, and Twin Silos bills their crab cake as a "culinary hole in one". Was the crab cake worth a country drive on the back roads? Let's find out!

Fresh ingredients and creativity. A sandwich with no rules. These are all things that we can get behind, and all we have to do is pay a visit to the Vagabond Sandwich Company. Located in downtown Bel Air, the Vagabond Sandwich Company is scratch cooking their way into your bellies based on a concept from the 1940's. And they support the local farming community by offering local products for sale alongside theirs. You can find crab cakes in a few forms, although the proper crab cake is a wrap, and not a sandwich. Is that enough to make us follow the vagabond trail to their doorstep? Let's find out!
