Ocean Pride Crab Cake Platter Ocean Pride Crab Cake Platter Crab Cake Review

Ocean Pride has been gracing the Lutherville/Timonium area since 1971. At that time, the place was owned by Robert Curreri. The Bielski brothers worked at Ocean Pride as crab steamers from the time the place opened until 1980. Then, in 2004, they bought the place and have been running it ever since. Not only has Ocean Pride been acknowledged as some of Baltimore's best crabs, they also have a store onsite that sells seafood (such as crabs, crab cakes, lobsters, etc.), adult beverages, and restaurant swag (t-shirts, coolers, etc.). The CCR stopped by to see how their crab cakes stack up against everyone else's. Read on to see how they were!

Lots of crab cake options on the menu! For appetizers, they offer petite crab cakes, fried, with homemade cocktail or tartar sauce. You can get crab cakes as a sandwich served with chips, or as part of a single platter paired with fries and cole slaw. Both are available broiled or fried. Entrees bring out the double serving, broiled or fried, with your choice of 2 sides. Other options include a crab cake club (crab cake, swiss, applewood smoked bacon), crab fluff (beer battered deep fried crab cake), paired with a steak as part of a surf and turf, and the triple crab sampler (crab cake, crab imperial, jumbo lump crab cocktail).

When you break apart the crab cake, you notice lots of crab lumps in various sizes. Mostly good sized lumps, showing that they know how to use all of the crab in their crab cakes. The binder is moist and creamy, but not saucy. Breading fills in the gaps to hold those delicious lumps of crab together, along with a good dose of seafood seasoning.

From the first bite to the last, we thought this crab cake was outstanding! The crab is nice and sweet, like you just picked the crabs yourself. The seafood seasoning is a bit assertive, but compliments the crab meat well. The binder provides more of a mouthfeel texture than flavor, but joins the party on the back end. Everything works together and showcases the crab. We wouldn't change a thing other than to make sure we order two next time!
