Woody's Crab House Crab Cake Sandwich Woody's Crab House Crab Cake Sandwich Crab Cake Review

If you've ever spent any time driving on I-95 in NE MD, you may have noticed a large crab on one of those restaurant exit signs. That sign would be for Woody's Crab House, located in, you guessed it, North East, MD. Woody's Crab House serves up Cheaspeake cuisine in a casual environment, specializing in steamed crabs and crab cakes. And after a tour of their website, it would seem that they also organize vacation tours (if only there was a real Old Bay Beach...). So while crabs weren't fully in season when we were at Woody's, they still had plenty of crab cakes available. Are they good enough to stake their reuptation on? Read along and see what we thought!

Woody's Crab Cake Sandwich is available broiled or fried, and served on your choice of a roll, bread, or crackers, alongside fries and cole slaw. There are numerous dinner entrees and combos available, so check out their menu for all of your options. Mail order crab cakes are also available.

The crab meat had a nice, sweet flavor to it, and was in mostly broken pieces, although there were some average sized lumps in there. The binder, what little of it there was, appeared to be a light mayonnaise/mustard mixture with hardly any detectable bread in the mix. Some spices were mixed in, but the focus is really on the crab meat.

While the consistency of the crab cake was good, overall it didn't quite match up with the expectations that were set. While the crab had some really good flavor, the flavor profile of the binder was kind of flat. Some additional spice is needed, otherwise things get a bit monotone. We can certainly understand wanting the crab meat flavor to take center stage, but a really good crab cake still needs the supporting actors, which we felt were lacking. With that said, the flavor you do get from the crab was enough for us to rate this 4 crabs, but you might want some lemon and crab seasoning nearby to jazz up the flavor profile.
