Sunshine Grille

If there was ever a location to open a restaurant, Fork, MD would be it. We're not sure what happened to Knife and Spoon, MD, but one thing we do know is that Fork is home to the Sunshine Grille. Sunshine Grille is a Greek and American restaurant featuring fresh, local ingredients, alongside a selection of craft beers and wines, all reasonably priced to keep you coming back. So while they're not part of the regular menu (which is quite extensive), we did happen upon crab cakes on the specials menu one night. Did they live up to the reputation of the Sunshine Grille? Let's find out!

Tamberino's

Tamberino's has been family-owned and serving Harford County for over two decades. While they are a pizza shop at first glance, there are two things they pride themselves on: Italian favorites and crab cakes. Given the crowd that is usually at the restaurant, we can clearly see that they are popular. Located next to The Lodge, Tamberino's does look like a classic Italian sub shop. But what you don't expect is the very generous serving sizes! We do know that pizza joints can kick out some serious crab cakes. Was Tamberino's one of them? Let's find out!

The Bayou

For over 60 years, there has been a restaurant on Route 40 that has been a local favorite. That establishment would be The Bayou. The current owners purchased the restaurant back in 1982, and ever since, the Wards have strived to provide top quality local cuisine in a place that emanates local ambience. Their three dining rooms are decorated with decoys (as Havre de Grace is known as The Decoy Capital of the World), local scenes depicted in paintings and photographs, and historical newspaper accounts. Of course, it was the crab cakes that attracted us. Read on to see how they were!

The Lodge

While we may not have had much of a winter this past season, it's always winter over at The Lodge.  The central theme is winter ski lodge, complete with chair lifts for seats, wooden statues for some of the barstools, and lots of ski artifacts, such as signs, snowshoes, skis, etc.  Of course, when winter strikes, thoughts usually don't turn to crab cakes.  But, this is late spring, and crab season is upon us.  So should you brave the cold and snow to get your crab cakes?  Or stay in and keep warm by the fire?  Continue reading to see what we thought!

The Mallet

The Mallet is a fairly large crab house and sports bar, located on the corner of Rt 1 and Mountain Rd in Fallston. Many other restaurants have been at this location, but the Mallet has been going strong since it took over the spot in 2011. There is something for everyone, ranging from enjoying a meal in their fancy dining room, to the inside Tiki Bar with 2 bars and live music, to cracking crabs and sippin' Bohs on the outside patio.  Whether you're brining the family or going out with your friends, The Mallet seems to offer something for everyone. And as any Maryland crab house, crab cakes are on the menu. How were they? Let's find out!
